One of the key aspects of Medical Insurance for people above 50 is premium. For most of the Insurers the premium goes up when a person moves from one age band to another. And from age 50 onwards the rate of premium increase is higher. So when a person decides on an insurer, then care must be taken to check which insurer’s premium goes up the maximum between the age bands of 50–55, 56 to 60, 61 to 65, 66 to 70. Basically one needs to check the possible premium rates over the next 15 to 20 years. Fact of the matter is that beyond 65 the earning capacity goes down and needs to be factored in.
